Embracing ChangeWelcome to Spring time. Another change in season, so be aware that it’s a time of adjustment. Out with the winter and preparation for the warmer months ahead. All aspects of our bodies are experiencing the adjustment, our diet and introducing the new seasonal foods. Our energy and time to get back to nature and our spirit ready to take on the new exciting changes on offer in the later part of the year. So let’s get moving and make the most of it. I am currently reading a book written by David Richo, a psychotherapist. David has written many books. I am reading, “The five things we cannot change …. And the happiness we find by embracing them.” Two aspects David makes reference to is that “everything changes and ends” and how human beings love to try to control things to prevent them from changing. As human beings we find change very unsettling. How often do we give people advice that we believe is a worldwide view and therefore feel that it is important advice that we are giving them because we feel that by following the advice it will work in their best interest. How often are we upset or disappointed when people don’t act upon the advice that we feel was so important for them? David refers to these people as CIA’s- Critics, Interpreters and Advisors. We have a choice to not criticise other’s behaviours, not interpret what they do according to our worldwide view and not to advise unless we are invited to. By doing this, our communication can be more loving and respectful, rather than controlling and forceful. David also makes mention of the 5 A qualities in our lives, attention, acceptance, appreciation, affection and allowing. These qualities sit better with our inner being and also with people in general. When we adopt the CIA attitude we appear bossy and controlling, this can affect our 5 A’s. Why is control such a big deal in our lives? Because by trying to control things we are actually looking for a particular outcome that we want to happen. We feel that if a particular outcome we have envisioned does not take place, then this will have a negative effect on us and then fear sets in. This is where our ego is alive and well. By practicing patience and grace as with the 5 A’s we can awaken in us new consciousness. Many of us believe that we should be in control of things. By doing this we set ourselves up for anxiety and expectation, which takes us out of the present moment .If we just accepted life the way it is, then we remain open to new and exciting possibilities. Next time you’re in a position where you feel you can offer some good advice, think beforehand. Have you been requested to offer the advice and if the advice is not taken will you be offended? Then put into practice your 5 A’s attention, acceptance, appreciation, affection and allowing to the situation and see how it works for you and others. I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised how everyone will feel. Good health !!! Marita
