How well do you know yourself? No one has lived longer with ourselves than us. So therefore no one should know us better than ourselves. If we do know ourselves that well then we can help ourselves work on the areas of our bodies that are more demanding. . I have recently read a book by Paula Horan on “ Abundance through Reiki” a friend of mine recently purchased it from a secondhand store. It was the buy of the century in my opinion. It’s not that it told me anything that I hadn’t heard before, but it was more the way it was written in simplistic language that gets the message across. The message of how important it is to us to keep learning about ourselves so we can know ourselves so well that we can actually help ourselves heal. By understanding our core self and the areas in our systems that are blocked or dis-eased we can begin to open ourselves up, release our blockages and improve our health. I have always been interested in the body and how it works and sometimes how it doesn’t want to work. This lead me on a journey over seven years ago to find out more about me and my body that lead me to reflexology. I originally booked into to do a short weekend course to work on self, family and friends but became so engrossed in the multiple benefits of reflexology that I wanted to learn more. I am glad I did because now I don’t only provide reflexology to people such as you, but I make sure I have my regular sessions as well. Why? because I like it and I know it helps to improve circulation to parts of my body that I struggle with. It also makes me aware of areas that are congested and need extra support. But I don’t just stop there I do regular check ups on me and why the body is out of balance. For example my sluggish digestive system, I ask myself what have I been doing lately that could be affecting this. Have I changed my diet? Yes the weather has changed and I am now eating more foods that require my digestive system to work a little more efficiently. Changes in the weather can also make you notice more aches and pains. The body is contracting more with the cold; I know that I need to spend more time each day stretching the body, rather than sitting cooped up in a chair. How do we keep a regular check on “us” and how we feel? By listening to our bodies. By feeling where there is pain, discomfort or a possible weakness. Where is a lack of the energy or circulation? I was sitting down the other day just being still and listening to my body. I could pick up at least 5 areas that weren’t quite right. Now admittedly they probably haven’t been right for ages, however I have become so used to how it feels when its blocked that I don’t tend to think about it much anymore. Until the day comes when the level of discomfort increases or shows other signs that something it not functioning properly. Then one day you get to the point where movement or body function is greatly impaired and you may need serious help. We often blame this on the ageing process and say that’s the body is wearing out or is it that the body is telling you something but you’re not listening. The moral of the story is don’t ignore the minor things as they have the potential to become the major things. So you say okay I’m listening and I tried this that and the other thing and nothing worked. Maybe it’s not going to fix itself. Possibly we should be looking at why the blockage has a risen. What aspect of our finely tuned machine is under threat,? what may it be related to and how our life is at present. When we establish this it helps us understand a little better what we are feeling and why we need to improve the energy to the area or release the worry and concern we are experiencing that may be blocking the area. For example if you are experiencing a pain in foot every time you wear a particular shoe, but at other times you are fine.Common sense would tell you to stop wearing the shoe or if you felt sick every time you went to the dentist you would need to work out what is it that makes you feel sick when you go to the dentist. Is it the thought of the dentist? Is it the materials they use when you go to the dentist? Did you have a bad dental experience and have a fear of the dentist? This may have been an ongoing thing for years and the sooner you address the problem with the dentist the sooner you can go and have dental treatment without feeling sick. Remember we need to address the emotional aspects as well as the physical aspects that our bodies are telling us about. I know its not always that simple but this is where taking the time to learn more about you and how you work and finding some self-help tools that you can do daily to help you unblock areas where energy is slow or circulation is poor, may be very beneficial. There is a variety of Self – help tools available from reading literature on your area of interest or doing a course such as Reiki or EFT (Emotional Field Therapy), meditation, Yoga. Spending time with yourself for yourself and listening to what your body has to say to you in the long run could help you live a more productive balanced life. Why not start learning more about YOU today. I am currently organising an “Introduction to Chakras” Workshop. Our Chakras are our energy centres. The workshop will include:
