| SOLE RESPONSE NEWSLETTER | June 2009 | |
We are what we thinkI recently attended an Internet marketing seminar. Registration started at 8.30am and we finished at 5.15pm. (I had had enough by 4.15pm). My husband was offered two free tickets to attend. The presenter was excellent and gave us valuable information throughout the day. For further information we could access sites on the web and learn more in our own time. The Internet is plethora of information. As to the credibility of the information, I suppose that is at the discretion of the person seeking the information. It really all comes down to what we want to believe and use. What doesn’t sit right with us we can choose to leave behind. Information is a very valuable thing. We all want to know something. By seeking and learning we grow, either because we question the information wanting to find out more, or we agree with the information perceiving it is true and correct for us and therefore we opt to put it into our belief system or our thought bank, where we store all the things that make us what we are today and helps us form our opinions. “We are what we think, All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts we create the world.” Quote from the Buddha. It was towards the end of the day at this "free" Internet Marketing Seminar that we were now being asked to part with our hard earned cash. The presenter used all the sales tricks of the trade on what to do, where to go, how to do it etc, to be a nifty Internet Marketer for your business. Now he was saying that to implement those tricks you needed to sign up with him for coaching and he would help you do it. All at a large cost of course. As usual there were the instant takers and others that had got what they wanted and were happy to go home and try things for themselves. After a while we were told "But wait, there’s more!!" (yes I thought about the steak knives too) It was the multiple bonus offers of yet more seminars you could attend over the next 12 months all included in this value added offer. This I suppose was assuming you could afford the time off work and the airfares to get to all destinations (some overseas). The "bonus" value went on and on. By that stage we were all tired and ready to go home, or was that the point, of catching us when our critical thinking skills were jaded. When it all boiled down, I did enjoy the day and walked away with “stuff” I could implement. I am grateful for that. However there was the other “stuff” that I was happy to leave behind and felt disappointed that the day ended that way. It was annoying me and making me think “please stop now it’s time to go home”. I like the “ K.I.S.S” method (keep it simple stupid) It has always sat well with me. But in this day and age it’s becoming harder and harder to do. We are continually bombarded with information, some of which we ask for, some we don’t. We fill our minds with loads of “stuff”. I think over recent years I have been a lot more selective about the “stuff” I want in my thoughts because as the Buddha says “we are what we think”. Sometimes less is more !! Happy thoughts.
