What’s happening on the inside…?

These days we seem to be bombarded by advertising in all aspects of the media regarding our external appearance or image. However, what the media doesn’t always portray that well is the fact that what our bodies are doing on the inside, clearly determines what we look like or are experiencing on the outside too.

The problem is that it’s often very hard to determine a clear picture of what is happening on the inside unless we go through expensive tests eg scans, x/rays, blood tests etc and generally we will only have these tests done when we present to a health care professional and we feel that something isn’t right or we are feeling unwell.

So what do we do to try to keep ourselves informed? By learning and being more observant about ourselves and how our body functions operate. Therefore we need to be aware of what foods sit well with us and what foods suit our lifestyle and then try to stick to them. Everyone is different and it’s important to work out a lifestyle plan that suits you and that you can reasonably work into your normal daily life.

If we look at four major organs of the body; the lungs (for our breathing), the liver (for our metabolism and more), the spleen (our largest lymphatic organ) and our kidneys (part of our excretion/filtration system). In some way, shape or form the function of one or more of those organs depends on how the others will function as well, because we depend on them all to be working properly so everything is balanced. If one or more of these organs is not working properly and imbalances occur, then we may feel unwell in many ways throughout our body.

Another good indicator is to eat foods that are in season because we are meant to be eating them at that time. So, next time you’re out food shopping check out what’s in season. If you haven’t tried it before, buy a small amount and try it, see if it works for you.

Next, I may preaching to the converted and stating the obvious, but avoid the processed foods as much as possible. The nutritional value in most processed foods is very limited and the preservatives in them cause our bodies to work overtime to break down this type of food. Eating natural or organic foods is not always easy or convenient, but do the best you can. Give your body every opportunity to work in your best interest with what you provide for it.

You will feel the benefits!!!

Stay well and Bon appetit.
